The VTM-420HD/SD is an innovative instrument combining many popular features of its predecessors the VTM-400HD and VTM-300 for monitoring and measuring picture, waveform, vector and audio on a single high-resolution XGA monitor. Additionally, the VTM-420HD/SD adds 601 processing to the existing inputs, Ethernet connectivity, closed-caption monitoring, auto-detect of HD or SDI and expandability of up to 24 inputs.

“The VTM-420HD/SD includes the latest in state-of-the-art electronics which accepts 1080i, 1080p, 720p, 480p and 480p mapped to 1080i/59.94 formats in all the popular frame rates plus standard definition 525/625 serial digital signals in a single unit,” explains Greg Huttie, Videotek’s Director of Product Development. “These unique electronics allow the parade and overlay of two input signals, of the same format, for detailed timing and level comparison between two video sources.”

The VTM-420HD/SD includes on-screen measurement cursors for waveform amplitude and time and vector phase. Real time signal quality alarms with user adjustable limits are standard, and all alarms are time stamped with data from either timecode (LTC or VANC) or an internal clock. The VTM-420HD/SD builds on the functions of the VTM-400HD such as enhanced audio displays that add Lissajous (audio phase), Videotek’s unique CineSound™ (5.1 channel or 7.1 channel) display, and a choice of 2, 4, 6 or 8 simultaneous bar graphs. Added to the already monitored audio input formats of analog, AES/EBU and embedded are the new Dolby Digital (AC-3) and Dolby E. A monitor loop for connection to a common computer is also included. The VTM-420HD/SD also incorporates technological features of the VTM-300, which include managing digital video and audio signals, automatic signal quality verification with time and date stamps—an indispensable tool for unattended monitoring and validation.
