Steam Adds L Series RAID for 10 Bit High Definition Post Production Work
by Anonymous
Santa Monica, CA April 30, 2004 -– Steam, a leader in short format post production work, is now using a new HD RAID system from ADTX. The L Series High Performance RAID provides Steam the ability to produce some of the most demanding high definition video work for clients while speeding up the workflow at the same time.
A big, Fortune 500 client approached Steam with the idea of finishing a project in 10 bit high definition video that needed real time output, unfortunately Steam’s RAID system was not fast enough for this task. The race was on to research, determine and acquire the best HD RAID solution for their needs.
With some input from industry contacts, Steam learned about a RAID system that has work worked well for others in the industry. Steam quickly contacted the recommended RAID manufacturer, ADTX, to arrange for a RAID unit.
“Steam did extensive testing on the L Series RAID from ADTX, this system passed all preliminary tests for 10 bit HD video” said Scott Bryant, Steam Creative Director, “Using the ADTX RAID with our Bluefish444 video board and Adobe Premiere gives us a great solution for 10 bit HD work in real time. The RAID system is also amazing when we use it with Adobe After Effects, we can scrub through footage on the time line very fast, the job gets completed much quicker now.”
“RAID 5 is crucial for protecting our hard work against a drive failure and this RAID does real time 10 bit HD while in a RAID 5 configuration.” Bryant continues, “Another nice feature is the built in Ethernet port which allows administration and monitoring locally or remotely when connected to an Internet provider, ADTX was able to diagnose our RAID from their United States office in Irvine, CA when we had a question.”
Steam was able to complete the project for their Fortune 500 customer on time and with the quality it deserved, thanks to their new equipment purchase. This project was crucial to the launch of their customer's new line of products, it was shown to an important crowd of guests and it was received very well.
With the ADTX L Series RAID system enabling them to produce higher-end HD content while improving their work performance, Steam expects to win business over their competitors that do not have the equipment needed to create this high level of work.
